Biographical / Historical

The church was built in stages between 1893-1902. Babcock leaves in 1949 and Whatcoat Methodist Church (African American Congregation) uses the building until 1954. The church is now (2012) known as Union Temple Congregation or Union Temple Baptist Church.

The collection consists of 229 photographic prints and one photographic souvenir booklet. The subjects consist of Baltimore buildings, businesses, piers, schools and colleges, hospitals, fraternal organizations meeting places, film and burlesque theaters, banks, churches and synagogues, street scenes, houses, monuments, City Jail, clubs, city government buildings, clothing companies, Druid Hill Park and zoo, and much more. Most photographs are exterior shots.
