MAN. Manuscript Collections

The Municipal Art Society Records spans 1905-1949, and includes the papers, record books, minute books, correspondence,​and scrapbooks of the Municipal Art Society and the Friends of Art, two arts organizations in the city of Baltimore.

The Municipal Art Society Records Supplement (1924-1992) is an addition to MS 2840, Municipal Art Society Records (1903-1949). This supplement consists of eight boxes and 3 albums of correspondence, notes, printed ephemera, and photographs.

Collection of manuscript items related to Dr. N. Louise Young (1907-1997), Maryland’s first practicing African American female physician, and her family. The collection includes correspondence; materials related to Dr. Young’s tenure at Provident Hospital in Baltimore, Maryland; and an assortment of citations and awards presented to Dr. Young for her professional and charitable work.

This collection contains the records and scrapbooks of the Baltimore Branch of the National League of American Pen Women. Members were asked to submit annual reports of achievements - their publications, awards, exhibitions, sale of works of art, performances of musical compositions, etc.

This collection contains 13 voumes of record books belonging to Baltimore architect James Crawford Neilson (1816-1900).

This collection contains research notes and photographs related to Andersen’s research on Mississippi showboats. The research primarily focuses on the Chapman family, who invented the medium, but also includes information on the development of the flatboat and general theater history.

This collection contains the records of the Nursery and Child’s Hospital, including Board of Directors meeting minutes, patient rosters, and financial documents.

This artificial collection contains Oaths of Fidelity and Oaths of Allegiance documents signed by the residents of the respective counties or copied and submitted by the magistrates who witnessed them.

This collection contains the papers of Benjamin Oden, a tobacco merchant and landowner of Upper Marlborough, Prince George's County, Maryland. Earliest materials show the conditions of Anglo-American trade, and subsequent items concern land sales and acquisitions; tobacco sales and cultivation; slaves and slave management; banking; and family matters.

This collection consists of Ogden Gorman’s correspondence, military service records, ephemera and printed materials from his military service during World War II.
