This collection primarily contains the correspondence of James W. Anderson (1797-1881), his wife Mary Minor Anderson (1810-1865), and their son Captain James Anderson (1831-1920).

The paperwork related to the purchase and transfers of “Hayes,” the family’s Montgomery County home, also represents a significant portion of the documents.

This collection contains the diary of Hester Ann Wilkins Davis (1809-1888) written during the Civil War years as well as notes related to the Davis family.

This collection contains an autograph album belonging to Rebecca Dorsey Davis, 1857-1861, entitled "Album of Beauty." The book contains verses and the signatures of Davis' friends and classmates while studying at the Patapsco Female Institute and Ingleside Seminary, circa 1857-1861.

Major portion of the collection is business papers, bills, receipts, etc. 12 small volumes of accounts, 1879-1894, some of the accounts concern farming at "Pleasant Plains".
