Abstract

Clifton R. Jones was a professor of sociology at Morgan State College and Howard University. Born in 1910 in Nanticoke, Maryland, he received his Ph. D from the State University of Iowa. In this oral history interview, Jones discusses the nature of discrimination in Baltimore, Maryland; housing problems; his appointment by Governor Theodore R. McKeldin to the Advisory Committee for State Employment Commission in 1954; the Housing Act of 1949; and nursing home desegregation.

Abstract David L. Glenn (1925-2001) was a civil rights activist and Maryland state government administrator. Born in Cincinnati, Ohio, Glenn entered the Army Air Forces after high school and served with the Tuskegee Airmen as an aerial radio operator and gunner. In 1965 he joined Mayor Theodore R. McKeldin's administration and from 1967 to 1973 Glenn was the director of the Baltimore Community Relations Commission.
