Dr. Walter Baetjer was a leading Maryland general internist and chief physician at the Union Memorial Hospital for many years. In this oral history interview, he discusses his family, early life, and education. Baetjer also talks about the origin of the Greater Baltimore Medical Center, his service with Hopkins Base Hospital Unit Eighteen in World War I, foreign study, medicine before the use of antibiotics, use of modern diagnostic aids, and his personal philosophy.
