Butchers Hill is one East Baltimore neighborhood whose identity has continually changed. By the mid-1920s most of the butchers had moved away and were replaced by Jewish doctors, dentists, rabbis, grocers, confectioners, and barbers. After the Second World War, many of the Jewish residents began migrating to the suburbs. The larger homes were converted to apartments. Neighborhood identity dissolved and the quality of life deteriorated, circa 1977-1980
