John McPherson Brien manuscript collection consists of letters from Baltimore merchant Robert Gilmor (1774-1848) to John McPherson Brien (1807-1849), owner of Antietam Iron Works and Catoctin Furnace & Iron Works.

This is an artificial collection of manuscript material that began with Robert Gilmor, Jr.'s first donation in 1845. These include letters and journals, family histories, memorandums, and miscellaneous autographs.

This manuscript collection was assembled and donated by the Gilmor family in 1845. Among others, the papers include correspondence with important figures in the French and Indian War, as well as the American Revolution.
