Though this collection contains newspaper clippings, biographical sketches, and journals, etc., it mostly consists of correspondence, related to the Latrobe family beginning with Benjamin Henry Latrobe Sr. (1764-1820) who designed the U.S. Capitol. The subjects of the letters and diaries deal with familial matters and the work done by B.H. Latrobe Sr. and his sons, Benjamin Henry Latrobe Jr. (1806-1878), and grandsons, Charles Hazlehurst Latrobe (1833-1902), after him on architectural structures such as various bridges and the construction of railways with the Baltimore and Ohio Railroad Company among others.
