Scope and Contents
The collection is broken down into five series by neighborhood. Photographs found in Series IV & V, include building surveys with architectural data including original use, present use (1960s), building material, and notable features. The photographs in Series II-V were removed from their original ledgers. The photographs in Series I were numbered prior to their acquisition by MdHS; this numbering system was retained through the rest of the collection.
Series I: Miscellaneous
This series contains approximately 1,200 photographs of buildings in a number of neighborhoods, primarily in West Baltimore. Neighborhoods represented include: Fells Point, Mt. Vernon, Midtown, Bolton Hill, Upton, Madison Park, Federal Hill, Inner Harbor, Remington, Woodberry, Hampden, Cold Spring, Mondawmin, Woodbrook, Sandtown-Winchester, Harlem Park, Downtown, and Montebello. The most represented neighborhood is Bolton Hill.
Series II: Union Square
This series consists of 346 photographs of buildings in the Union Square Neighborhood. Streets represented include: Calhoun Street, Gilmor Street, Hollins Street, Lemmon Street, Lombard Street, Mount Street, Pratt Street, and Stricker Street.
Series III: Bolton Hill
This series consists of 210 photographs of buildings in Bolton Hill. Streets represented include: Bolton Place, Park Avenue,
Series IV: Seton Hill
This series consists of 506 photographs of buildings in the neighborhood of Seton Hill. Streets represented include: Druid Hill Avenue, Eutaw Street, Franklin Street, George Street, Jasper Street, Monument Street, Orchard Street, Paca Street, Pennsylvania Avenue, St. Mary’s Street, Seminary Court, and Tessier Street. Includes Building Surveys starting with Image ID# 1984.22.790.
Series V: Dickeyville
This series consists of 156 photographs of buildings in the neighborhood of Dickeysville. Streets represented include: Forest Park Avenue, Pickwick Road, Sekota Road, Tucker Lane, and Wetheredsville Road. Includes Building Surveys.
