Included in the Redwood Collection are materials of George Buchanan Redwood (1888-1918), Mary Buchanan Coale Redwood (1861-1940), George Buchanan Coale (1819-1887), William Edward Coale (1816-1865) and John Greene Proud, Jr. (1813-1883).
George Buchanan Coale's materials date from 1828-1863 and contain letters to his brother, William Edward Coale, a naval surgeon, concerning the former's conversion to Swedenborgian beliefs; Baltimore banking, politics and social life in the 1840s; and a house being built by Robert Cary Long. There are also letters received by Coale from various correspondents during the Civil War.
Lt. George Buchanan Redwood's materials include letters written by him during 1917-1918 to his mother, Mary Buchanan Coale Redwood (Mrs. Francis T. Redwood), and others. There are also sympathy letters to Mrs. Redwood after George was killed in France in 1918 during World War I.
John Greene Proud's materials include a volume of poems (1832-1844) entitled Random Rhymes at Truant Times.
