The William A. Stewart papers deal with Stewart's law practice. There are two ledgers dated 1851-1869 and 1874-1893 containing accounts with numerous individuals and institutions for legal services and estates settled.
A volume containing 6th Ward-Proceedings of the Democratic Assoc. dated 1847 also includes clippings of political satires.
There is a volume entitled "Key to Blackstone's Commentaries or Answers to the Questions Proposed by Barron Field" by William A. Stewart, 1846.
There are also three volumes of law reports/digests of cases compiled by Theodoric Bland (1776-1846), the chancellor of Maryland. Entitled "T. Bland's Decisions" these volumes are handwritten and were in the library of William A. Stewart.
The collection includes a manuscript copy of the "Memoirs of Paul Jones" copied from the original lent to Stewart from his sister-in-law in 1886. Jones was an American officer from Virginia and his memoirs date from July through September 1776 while he was a prisoner in Sorel near Quebec after being captured in the battle of Trois Rivieres in June 1776.
