Scope and Contents
The collection offers insight into various local and national artist organizations during the Great Depression and WW II. The following organizations are represented in the public papers: The Artists Union of Baltimore (a short paper exists on the origins and history of this group), the Artists Association of Baltimore, American Artists Congress, National Association of Art Directors, and various committees and their members from local art museums. Private papers, more limited in number, consist of lecture notes and correspondence on arts related subject matter. Items represented include: notes on the artist's role in society, the anti-fascist attitude of the arts community and what artists can contribute to the military effort during WW II. A scrapbook of arts related newspaper articles (1934-46) is also included.
