Biographical / Historical
Henry Harwood Key (1827-1889) was the son of Francis Scott Key, Jr., (1806-1866) and Elizabeth Lloyd Harwood (1808-1902). Key was a United States naval officer, commissioned Third Lieutenant on 10 March 1855. He resigned his commission in 1857. Key worked with the publishing house D. Appleton & Co., in New York, where he lived for many years with his wife and daughter, Helen Key Stone (1867-1951). He died in Mobile, Alabama, and was buried in Annapolis, Maryland.
