Scope and Contents
This collection contains the papers of those working on the preparation of "Maryland Historical Prints, 1752 to 1889" by Lois B. McCauley, Curator of Graphics at the Maryland Historical Society. The collection illustrates the process by which an idea is transformed into a finished book. It includes several stages of drafts of text, demonstrating the various stages of research, writing, and editing which took place while the original manuscript was prepared for sending to the printer as well as materials related to the selection, preparation, and photography of the prints to be included in the book, and the original manuscript itself, in its entirety. Other items illustrate the interaction between the printer and the Maryland Historical Society, including production masters after editing [marked "Set A"], revised copy after editing, layouts, and page copy. Also included are committee reports, progress reports, invoices, estimates and other financial information, directions to researchers, correspondence, photo orders, paper selection materials, and other related materials.
The collection contains many xerox copies although there are also some originals. Other originals and copies were sent to the printer--Schneidereith & Sons)--or can be found in the Merrick Prints Files in the Graphics Divisions.
