Scope and Contents

From the Collection:

Approx. 2900 3"x5" prints and negatives (1300 prints/1600 negatives) of City-owned property taken for the Commission on Efficiency and Economy, a body appointed by Mayor Howard W. Jackson in 1923, as part of its inventory and valuation of all City assets. The survey includes views of City Hall, fire and police stations, municipal markets, Enoch Pratt Free Library branches, monuments, parks, playgrounds, public squares, water works, and other miscellaneous structures. The views are mostly of exteriors, and are of fair to poor quality. The prints and negatives are stored separately and are arranged according to the subject headings below. The boxes listed refer to the negatives, while the copy prints and prints mounted in binders are stored separately.
