Documents related to the service of Private Jefferson Weeden of Frederick County, Maryland who enlisted in Company F, 39th Regiment, United States Colored Troops on 1864 March 31 and was transferred to the United States Navy on 1864 April 17. Items include a Proof of Ownership document dated 1865 July 27 stating that at the time of Private Weeden's enlistment he was enslaved by Charles E. Thomas; and a receipt with the same date from the office of the U.S Board of Claims for a state bounty.
