Louise Kerr Hines, 1980
Abstract
Louise Kerr Hines was a Maryland State Unemployment Insurance claims examiner, a reporter for the Baltimore American, a volunteer tour guide and oral history interviewer for the Maryland Historical Society, and a plaintiff in the Enoch Pratt Free Library suit to integrate training classes in 1943. In this self-conducted interview, Hines discusses her family and educational background, students' social activities, the successful 1944 suit to open training classes at the Enoch Pratt Free Library to blacks (in which she was a plaintiff), her career as claims examiner, and life in black middle income Baltimore.
