General
From Philadelphia, Robert Goldsborough writes to his uncle, William Goldsborough, in Talbot County, Maryland. He relates his progress at Phildelphia College, noting that he underwent a public examination in Greek and Latin and acquitted himself to the satisfaction of all the masters, whereupon he was placed in the Freshman Class. He adds that the Battalion of the Royal Americans are encamped nearby and are going to join Col. Stanwick. "What expedition they are going upon is not yet known, but it is suppos'd against Ticonderoga or For Du Quesne, but is is all conjecture, and therefore we are uncertain where they are destin'd." William Goldsborough's reply is on the reverse of the same letter. He expresses satisfaction at his nephew's performance, and warns him to protect his morals in such a "large and populous town."
