Xeroxed copy of letter from L.B. Sheppard from the Office of the Regiment in Harper's Ferry, Virginia to President Abraham Lincoln informing him that all Maryland Troops in that division (2nd Brigade, 1st Division) had been ordered home to vote and that the 2nd Eastern Shore had been exempt, however they seek his permission to vote as well. A xeroxed copy of Lincoln's reply is also included, stating that Sheppard's request was being attended to by the Secretary of War, dated November 17, 1863. Originals in Famous Persons File.
