Scope and Contents

From the Collection:

The collection primarily contains photographs taken by Blanche Hungerford Latimer. Subjects range from scenes in New York City to portraits of her friends and family. Photographs of the Brooklyn Bridge and of St. John the Divine Cathedral are highlights of the collection. She also experimented with different development processes and styles, but mostly created platinum prints. The collection also includes her husband’s, Walter R. Latimer, work on similar subjects. He also created several portraits of his wife. Other photographers represented in the collection are Paul L. Anderson, Alice Willet, Clarence H. White, and H. R. Neeson.

The collection is organized in fifteen series by subject or photographer. They have also been arranged by size. Smaller prints are located in box one and may have larger duplicates in boxes two and three. The photographs of Blanche H. Latimer are arranged by subject, whereas the rest are filed by photographer. Some of the photographs were remounted for exhibition, but wherever possible the original mountings are kept with the print.
