Ritchie papers
Abstract
This collection contains seventy-six scrapbooks containing newspaper clippings and magazine articles collected by Maryland governor Albert C. Ritchie pertaining mainly to his public life from 1915-1936. This includes pocket notebooks, diaries, notes for speeches, and printed reports.

Biographical / Historical
As Governor of Maryland, Ritchie played a leading role in Maryland politics from 1920-35. He was elected Attorney General in 1915, Governor in 1919, and served an unprecedented four consecutive terms as Governor. Ritchie was an outspoken critic of the 18th Amendment and the New Deal. He was considered as a Democratic presidential possibility in 1924, 1928, and 1932.
