This collection contains 5 volumes of letter books of Stephen Bordley's correspondence with his friends and family. Also included is a fee book belonging to John Beale Bordley, and a partial transcription of the letter books

One fee book of John Beale Bordley dated 1759-1761. Partial transcripts of letter books. 5 letter books dated 1727-1735, 1738-1740, 1740-1747, 1749-1752 and 1756-1750 of Stephen Bordley's correspondence to brothers Thomas, William, John Beale Bordley and Matthias Harris; William Hunt; Flowerdewe and Norton. Covers schooling of Stephen and half-brother Thomas; lawsuits over Bordley lands; love of Stephen Bordley and Peggy Shippen; of Elizabeth Bordley and "J. A." (?). Setting up Snowden's Ironworks. Electioneering for Lower House. Appointment as Naval Officer for Annapolis. Effect of privateers and of European wars on Colonial shipping. Much on collecting, selling, shipping tobacco; on ordering goods from England. Letters are between MHS and F. Sims McGrath, who financed the restoring in 1950.
