Glenn L. Martin oral history collection
Abstract
The Glenn L. Martin oral history collection contains interviews with four women who worked for the Glenn L. Martin aircraft company during World War II. Interviewed between 1995-1996, the narrators discuss how they came to live in Baltimore, their housing communities and jobs in the plant, and the overall effect of World War II on the home front.

Biographical / Historical
Glenn L. Martin established the Glenn L. Martin aviation company in 1929 in Middle River, Maryland. During World War II, the company became one of the largest aircraft manufacturing plants in the world. Due to the increased demand for workers to support the war effort, thousands of people came to the Middle River area for employment. Not only did Glenn L. Martin provide employment, he also created neighborhoods in the Middle River area for workers to live in, to cut down on commute time and increase efficiency. These housing developments included Stansbury Manor and Aero Acres.

Before processing, this collection was titled Middle River oral history project. However, after the recordings were re-evaluated it was determined the name Glenn L. Martin oral history collection would better suit the recordings based on the topics discussed within.
Scope and Contents
This collection includes four oral history interviews, conducted by Jessica Payne and one other unidentified interviewers.
The narrators all worked for the Glenn L. Martin company during World War II.
