Biographical Note

Lieutenant George Buchanan Redwood was born in Baltimore in 1888 to Frank Tazewell Redwood and Mary Robinson Coale. He was a Harvard Graduate, and a celebrated reporter and editor for the Baltimore News. He served in the US army during World War I with the American Expeditionary Force in France. He received several honors during his time, including two citations for bravery, the Croix de Guerre, and a Distinguished Service Medal. Redwood was killed in action in May 1918. He had no children.

Scope and Contents

Included in this collection are military papers of Lt. George Buchanan Redwood (1888-1918). Redwood's papers, which date from 1913-1918, contain correspondence relating to his military training and service and include orders, memoranda, and notices. Also included are memorandum books; notes on field tactics; diaries; maps of French terrain and troop positions; documents concerning his deeds and medals; and miscellaneous souvenirs such as postcards, tickets and menus.
