Maynard family papers
Abstract
A collection of letters, deeds, accounts, etc. of the Maynard family and related families of Higgens, Beatty, etc. of Montgomery, Prince Georges, and, particularly, Frederick County. The correspondence comments on family news, agriculture, economics, and most often, religion. There are numerous references to methodism such as the description of plans for an 1802 quarterly meeting and an account of an 1840 camp meeting at Baltimore; there are also references to study at Princeton Seminary in 1826 and several letters reflecting on religion and economics in Russleville, Logan County, Kentucky. The large majority of the collection are land patents concerning several family holdings in Frederick County, Maryland, from the mid-18th to mid-19th centuries.
