The Williams family was from Mecklenburg County, Virginia. Captain Edwin A. (Anderson) Williams was an officer in the Confederate Army, treasurer of the Roanoke Valley Railroad, a bank trustee, lawyer, and tobacco grower. He married twice, first to Elizabeth Ann Hamlett, and second to Lucy Page Kennon (fl. 1874-1889), and altogether had six children: Carter N., Edwin A. Jr, (born circa 1843), Thomas Nelson, Henry S., E. Kennon, and Alice Kennon.

Carter N. Williams married Rosa Haskins in 1874, and had five children: Haskins Williams, Edwin A. Williams, III, Carter N. Williams, Jr., E.R. Carter (daughter), and Mrs. John Bates. It is not clear from the documentation which of these women is Lucy Page Williams.

Edwin A. Williams, III (1878-1948) was a Baltimore businessman and noted genealogist. Born in Boydton, Va., he came to Baltimore around 1918 and worked with the Aluminum Company of America, serving as company auditor at the time of his retirement. He was also an authority of Virginia geneology. He married Mary Thornhill in 1904. At his death in 1948, he was survived by his wife, daughters Miss Henri Sinclair Williams and Mrs. Robert McDowell of Baltimore, and Misses Mary and Page Williams of New York City, and son Edwin A. Williams of Milwaukee.
