Biographical / Historical
The Deutscher Ring (German Circle) was an organization of German-American clubs in Baltimore. Housed at Lehmann Hall in the 800 block North Howard Street, it included the Junger Maennerchor (Young Mens Choir) and the Deutscher Theater-Verein (German Dramatic Club). The organizations president in the late 1930s was Karl Thau. The groups quarters moved in 1938 to Deutsches Haus, formerly the Bryn Mawr School at Cathedral and Preston Streets, which was established at that time as headquarters for many Germanic societies.
Johanna (Hannchen) M. Mahrenholz emigrated to the United States from Germany in 1913. Her husband was Otto Mahrenholz, who worked as a commercial artist and lithographer. Both were involved in theatrical productions of the Deutcher Theater-Verein.
