Biographical / Historical

The Fendall family helped shape Maryland during the 1600s and 1700s. Josias Fendall served as the fourth proprietary governor from 1656-1660. He was appointed by Lord Baltimore to the position for his loyal support. In 1660, Fendall attempted to abolish the parliament’s Upper House to create a commonwealth government, but this was quickly quashed. The family owned land across the state with homes in Prince George’s County and Frederick, Maryland.
