Biographical Note
Lydia Howard DeFord de Roth (1891-1971), was a writer and poet and married to Herbert C. de Roth. She was raised in Baltimore and also lived in Boston and England. During World War II, she served as an air raid warden during the London Blitz, and also as a civilian defense worker.

Scope and Contents
The Lydia Howard de Roth Photograph Collection consists of two boxes of 228 items including photographs, printed ephemera, and prints relating to the de Roth, DeFord, Morris, and Howard families. It also includes a collection of photographs of paintings of Howard ancestors, including John Eager Howard. There are also images of Severn Teackle Wallis, Hubert Latham, and Joan of Arc.
Two diplomas of Lydia DeFord de Roth, 1915 and 1921, have been removed from the collection and transferred to the Printed Ephemera collection.
