Scope and Contents

The collection consists of seven general store account books, one school account book combined with general store accounts, and one day book. Interleaved within the pages are tax and cash register receipts, customer receipts, promissory notes, correspondence, and a pharmaceutical advertisement. The account books are divided into three time spans: 1836-65; 1871-1890; and 1929-1931.

Products include accounts of field and shop labor, blacksmithing, butchering, clothing, crockery, fabric, food staples, grain, medicines, school supplies, sewing notions, shoes, repairs, tools, and window glass.

Prominent family names include: Bireley, Brown, Crawford, Eby, Eyle, Gladhill, Harbaugh, Linebaugh, McClain, Shinddelecker, Willhide, and Williar.

Companies represented include: All Saint Sisters, Bell Telephone, Drs. D. Fahrney & Son, The First National Bank(Blue Ridge Summit), Trustees of School District 1, World Wide Adjusting Co., and P. G. Zouck.
