Separated Materials

Materials incorporated into the Library's General Collection include two pamphlets, Charles Shipley's family bible, and fifteen issues of "The Shipleys of Maryland Newsletter" spanning from September 1965 to November 1979.

Scope and Contents

This collection contains information on the genealogy of the Shipleys and related families. It includes handwritten copies of land grants, wills, inventories, birth records, obituaries, wedding announcements, family histories, bible records, news articles on the family, and newspaper pictures. Other items include approximately 5,000 3x5 cards listing births, deaths and marriages of Shipley and related families; typescript entitled "Shipley, Mitchell and Thompson families;" cemetery records from Missouri; photostat of coat-of-arms; Loudon Park Cemetery receipts and interment records; and Lincoln-Shipley genealogy.

Shipley family members represented include: Judge Nicholas Charles Burke, Dr. Arthur M. Shipley, Joshua Shipley, and Ruth Howard Shipley. Other families also discussed include: Burke, Leonard, Logsdon, Mitchell, and Thompson.
