Abstract

This collection contains photographs of historic houses in Maryland from the Maryland House and Garden Pilgrimage, a non profit organization that has provided tours of historic homes in Maryland since its founding in 1930. More than 100 houses are represented in the collection including many that that are on the National Register of historic places such as the Hammond-Harwood House and Chase Lloyd House in Annapolis, Tulip Hill in Anne Arundel County, Wye House in Talbot County, and Doughoregan Manor in Howard County. Biographical / Historical

The Maryland House and Garden Pilgrimage is a non-profit organization dedicated to the preservation and restoration of architecturally significant properties in the State of Maryland. The group has organized annual tours of private homes, gardens, churches, farms, and historic sites throughout Maryland since its inception in 1930.

Scope and Contents

This collection contains 271 photographs of historic houses throughout Maryland. The majority of the images are prints mounted on 16 x 20 mat boards. The collection is broken into 19 Series organized by county. Series II consists of photographs of historic homes in Baltimore City. Series 19 contains 3 images of houses that are unidentified by name and county. Most of the photographs are undated, taken in the 1950s – 1970s.
