Scope and Contents

The Waldon Photograph Collection consists of one box of 66 photographs dating from ca 1860s to 1944. The collection was given to the Maryland Historical Society by an anonymous donor – it is unclear if the subjects in the photographs are related in any way. Most of the photographs are portraits of African-Americans, with 26 identified – the remaining photographs are unidentified portraits. Surnames include: Waldon, Perkins, Groom, Huddle, Sims, Dorsey, Mackey and others. The collection consists of matted prints, cabinet cards, one film negative, and a cased ambrotype or tintype. There is one portrait of a L.M. Sgt. Albert B. Clarkson, a member of the U.S. Army 10th Cavalry, the original Buffalo Soldier regiment, ca 1918.
