Biographical Note

The Greenfield family arrived in Maryland around 1810, and primarily resided in Baltimore and Harford Counties. Samuel Greenfield moved to Ohio in 1853 and lived in Massilon and Greenville. He lived with his uncle, Zachariah Greenfield. There are multiple love letters from Mary Elizabeth Sanders. Samuel married her in November of 1856. Samuel was a wheelwright. There are records of Samuel leasing a wagon shop from his father-in-law, William Sanders. He had three brothers, Thomas, Isaiah, and Amos and one sister, Ann. Samuel’s brother, Amos, was a preacher. He resided in Kellville, Maryland.

Samuel B. Greenfield, son of Samuel K. J. Greenfield and Mary Elizabeth Greenfield was born on October 2, 1861. Samuel and Mary’s son married Willianna Virginia Black on October 2, 1888. They lived in Wilna, Harford County, Maryland. They had one son, Howard Greenfield. Willianna Greenfield died on February 20, 1926.

Mary remarried twice after Samuel’s death; first to Robert Taylor from Canada, and then to Mr. Welsh. Mary Elizabeth (Welsh) purchased 34 acres of land in Wilna, Harford County on December 10, 1910.
