Biographical / Historical
The Clayton-Evans family lived scattered across the Maryland-Delaware state line. The family held strong military traditions with their most famous member Amos Alexander Evans serving as the Surgeon General aboard the USS Constitution during the War of 1812.

Scope and Contents
This collection mostly consists of genealogical papers collected by A.W. Evans. Evans collected or copied papers from several historical societies all relating to his direct and extended family. The collection also includes journals from prominent war figures like Amos Evans, Surgeon Gen. of the USS Constitution.
This collection is catalogued according to its accession arrangement. There is no specific series - items are merely arranged in folders based on likeness.
