Otto Stude manuscript collection

The Stude family resided at 18 N. Beaumont Avenue in Catonsville, Maryland. Otto Stude owned and operated Otto Stude & Co. Grain in Baltimore. He and his wife Johanna M. Stude had six known children: Irmgard Stude Benson (later of Penn Yan, New York), Johanna Stude Seidel (Towson, MD), Else Stude Sebald (Riderwood, MD), Dorothy Stude Holmes (Catonsville, MD), William G. Stude (Baltimore, MD), Lt. Col. Helmuth Frederick Stude (Baltimore, MD), and Otto C. Stude (Catonsville, MD). Otto died on December 18, 1956, at the age of 91, and is buried at Loudon Park Cemetery.

Lt. Col. Helmuth F. Stude served in the Army in Europe during World War II, and retired in 1960. He later became an accountant with Charles J. Froelich, Jr. He was married to Dorothy C. Gundelach Stude, who was originally from St. Louis, in 1948, and the couple moved to Baltimore in 1957. Dorothy was a volunteer with the Keswick Home, and died June 7, 1981, at the age of 71. Helmuth died of a heart attack on February 4, 1984, at the age of 72.

Otto Carl Stude was born in 1909 and died on May 3, 2009. He attended Catonsville High School (graduating in 1925) and St. John’s College. He worked at Bethlehem Shipbuilding Corporation at Sparrow’s Point until he enlisted in the U.S. Navy in 1943, serving in the Pacific. After his return from the war, he was employed at the Social Security Administration, and continued to live at his family’s home in Catonsville. He is buried in Loudon Park Cemetery.
