Biographical / Historical
The Wetherall family settled in Harford County (Md.) during the 1600’s. They became prominent members of Maryland society in business and trade. In 1846, William Wetherall began iron and steel importing company, which he ran with his son William G. Wetherall, Jr. The Aldridge, Bower, Bowie, Calwell, Colwell, Forman, Green, Hilleary, Shakleford, and West families of Maryland and Virginia connected to the Wetherall family by marriage.

Scope and Contents
The collection contains original deeds, memorabilia, and family correspondence of the Wetherall and Matthews families of Maryland. Notes and correspondence of related families are also included. Of particular note are the deeds for various properties in and around Baltimore (Md.) and a United States passport from 1871.
