Biographical / Historical

The Clayton-Evans family lived scattered across the Maryland-Delaware state line. The family held strong military traditions with their most famous member Amos Alexander Evans serving as the Surgeon General aboard the USS Constitution during the War of 1812.

Scope and Contents

The Clayton-Evans Family Photograph Collection consists of two boxes of 52 photographs of members of the Clayton-Evans family, dating ca 1850s – ca 1902. There are also some photographs of the U.S.S. Constitution in Boston. The images include cased photographs – daguerreotypes and ambrotypes or tintypes – matted prints, carte de visites, and cabinet cards.
