Abstract

The Rosa Miller photograph collection comprises three boxes of glass and film negatives depicting domestic scenes from the early 20th century. The collection includes landscapes from the southern United States, including Baltimore, Maryland and Washington, D.C., along with family portraits.

Immediate Source of Acquisition

Collection was acquired in 1991 by the Peale Museum from Rosa Miller: Acc# 1991.22. In 1997 the Peale/Baltimore City Life Museums closed due to lack of funding. Their collections were transferred to the Maryland Historical Society in 1998.

Scope and Contents

The Rosa Miller photograph collection consists of three boxes of 174 glass and film negatives from the collection of Rosa Miller depicting activities of home and leisure life in the early 1900’s. The negatives encompass family portraits as well as strolls through the park, tennis games, needlework, visits to a military camp and landscapes of Baltimore, Atlantic City, Washington DC, Sharps Island, and the southern United States. Box 3 contains the original negative sleeves.
