Abstract
Roster book of Company B, 30th Infantry Regiment, United States Colored Troops, which was comprised primarily of Marylanders. This book was most likely the field copy kept by 1st Lt. Charles Tarbell and records a range of demographic data--such as age, birthplace, occupation, status as free or enslaved--as well as enlistment details, remarks on service, and physical characteristics of the men. The fate of each member of the regiment is also recorded: discharged, deserted, or cause of death.
