Content Description

Included in the Hammonds Farm list is the name "Harriott." This individual is thought to be Frederick Douglass' mother based on information Douglass provided in his autobiographical narratives. Douglass (1818-1895) was born into slavery in Talbot County, Maryland to Harriet Bailey and an unidentified white father and was put to work at the Wye House plantation starting at the age of six.
