This collection contains the copybook of Baltimore sea merchant, Captain William Kennedy (1801-1873). The focus of the copybook is primarily on maritime trade, with the letters written in English and Spanish, and sent from a variety of locales, including Havana, Cadiz, St. Thomas, Philadelphia, and Baltimore, among others.

The four account books of the prominent Baltimore businessman William Patterson (1752-1835) relate primarily to his merchant and shipping activities. Patterson's Will is also included in this collection.
