Abstract This collection contains materials from 1933 to 1967 related to the Maryland State Colored Teachers' Association (MSCTA). In 1937 the MSCTA was renamed the Maryland Educational Association (MEA), then merged with the previously all-white Maryland State Teachers Association (MSTA) in 1951. Abstract

The collection consists of materials related to and collected by Sterling S. Keyes (1934-2012), an educator, administrator, and the first African American Superintendent of Baltimore City Public Schools. The materials relate to Keyes’ tenure as superintendent and date between January and September 1971. Included are six black and white photographs, administrative correspondence, school newsletters, and newspaper clippings. The collection also contains a copy of Keyes’ obituary from 2012.

Abstract

This is a collection of five, unbound notebooks handwritten by Susanna Warfield (1797-1890) of "Groveland" located near Sykesville, Maryland. The entries are mainly concerned with family affairs; her desire to build a chapel in Sykesville; her various travels; interactions and conflicts with the enslaved people who worked the estate; and her position as an unmarried woman living with her parents and brother in the country.
