This artifical collection consists of diverse items reflecting Maryland's role in the War of 1812. Most of the collection is comprised of letters and documents dating from 1812 to 1814, although relevant items before and after these dates are also included. Correspondence reflects the nature of the war and the significance attached to it.
William H. Winder papers
This collection contains military papers and correspondence of General William H. Winder (1775-1824). The materials relate to his activities during the War of 1812 and subsequent court martial after the defeat at Bladensburg, Maryland. Posthumous material consists of his son’s correspondence concerning his father.

The Wilmer – Hoffman – Deford Manuscript Collection follow different branches of the Deford family tree, highlighting the lives of various, but eventually connected, families, extending from 1777 to 1999. The bulk of the papers (1777 – 1981) center around individual members of the families including James P. Wilmer, Wilmer Hoffman, RC Hoffman, and Mary Dorothea Hoffman Deford.
