Original letters of family correspondence, includes Mary Broke's description of Quaker Meetings, 1785-1801. Samuel Brooke's descriptions and reports from NY, Philadelphia, Stroudesburg PA, and Marlborough OH, 1792-1841. Dorothy Hopkins in Baltimore to sisters in Montgomery County, circa 1825-1857.

Abstract

The collection consists of letters, a memoir, and newspaper clippings related to two prominent Maryland families, the Fitzhughs and Tysons. Of note are materials related to the Shelter for Orphans of Colored Soldiers and Friendless Colored Children as well as the Shelter for Aged and Infirm Colored Persons. Isabella Tyson (1823-1903) was involved with both of these Baltimore, Maryland charitable organizations.

The bulk of the collection contains materials related to Sarah Haddock Kirk Wilkinson (1824-1910) and her husband, Morris Robert Wilkinson (1825-1897), as well as their children.
