Biographical / Historical

Marie Buchanan moved to Maryland from West Virginia in 1941. She got a job working for Glenn L. Martin the same day she got off the train. Buchanan only worked for Glenn L. Martin until 1945, getting let go after the war ended. She then worked for a bottling company called Crown Cork and Seal for three years, and then as a district sales manager for Avon for 17 years. Buchanan met her husband when they both worked at Glenn L. Martin, and he continued to work for them for 23 years. The couple lived in Edgewater, a Glenn L. Martin housing community, in a house they built from scratch in 1953 for $10,000. At the time of the interview, Buchanan was still living in that house.
