Gough-Carroll papers

This collection primarily contains legal and personal papers of Harry Dorsey Gough (1745-1808), including land deeds and papers dealing with the estate of Isaac Burgess in which Gough was named as an heir. There is an inventory of Gough's estate, in which enslaved people are listed individually by name and, in some cases, by parentage. There are also papers concerning various tracts of land in Baltimore County, including The Adventure (later Perry Hall), Ridgelys Conclusion, and Monk's Discovery, some dating from the 17th century.

The collection also has some of Gough's correspondence and his correspondents include: Hugh Hamersley, Richard Dallam, Charles Carroll of Carrollton, William Paca, John Eager Howard, Andrew Weisenthal, Nicholas Dorsey, Darby Lux, and Captain Charles Ridgely.

Additional materials include business and personal correspondence of Harry Dorsey Gough Carroll (1797-1866), such as letters and passports relating to his trip to England in 1827; items pertaining to members of the Ridgely family, namely Captain Charles Ridgely, Achsah Ridgely Holliday Carnan Chamier, Charles (Carnan) Ridgely, Prudence Carnan Gough, and Eliza Ridgely Carroll; items pertaining to the Winn and Beall families; and genealogies of the Goughs, Ogles, and Bealls
