Papers related to the service of Private Martin V. Townsend (born circa 1842) of Carroll County, Maryland who first enlisted in Battery A, Maryland Light Artillery in 1861 and at some point was transferred to Battery B, Maryland Light Artillery. Documents include Townsend's discharge papers for his service with Battery B dated 1865 July 3 as well as two payment receipts for his service in Battery A, dated 1865 August 5 and 1865 September 30.

Content Description Documents related to the service of Private Jefferson Weeden of Frederick County, Maryland who enlisted in Company F, 39th Regiment, United States Colored Troops on 1864 March 31 and was transferred to the United States Navy on 1864 April 17. Items include a Proof of Ownership document dated 1865 July 27 stating that at the time of Private Weeden's enlistment he was enslaved by Charles E.
