Reverend John Hersey collection

Abstract

This collection consists of the the personal papers, namely correspondence, belonging to Reverend John Hersey, a Methodist Episcopal minister who came to Baltimore in 1835 as a missionary preacher. The material was collected by the Reverend Fletcher E. Marine during the period 1870-1889 while he was in the course of writing Hersey's biography.

The papers in the Rieman Family Collection span over 150 years, and document the genealogical history of the Rieman Family in Baltimore. The materials consist of legal papers, wills, land deeds, real estate records, plats and blueprints, and records of the genealogical research conducted by various Rieman family members during the twentieth century.

This collection consists of bank books and check books, monthly time books, Burnside ledgers, expense ledgers, journals, account ledgers, cash books, church attendance records, breeder's herd records, and similar items. Records were maintained by Samuel Moor Shoemaker, Samuel Moor Shoemaker II, Mrs. Augusta Chambers Eccleston Shoemaker, Mrs. Ellen Whitridge Shoemaker, and Dinsmore and Kyle.
