Abstract The collection consists chiefly of letters written by Samuel Moor Shoemaker by business associates (especially men employed by the Adams Express Company), friends, some Shoemaker family members, and a few politicians (e.g. Schyler Colfax 1823-1885 and James A. This collection contains the papers of the Tilghman and Goldsborough families of Dorchester and Talbot County, Maryland, circa 1726-1864. Names associated with the papers are Charles Goldsborough (1707-1767), the father of Governor Charles Goldsborough, William Tilghman Goldsborough (1808-1876), Mary Tilghman Roberts (1753-1819), and Matthew Tilghman (1779-1828).
